The story of Julius Meinl coffee is closely linked to Vienna coffee house culture. The coffee house poet Peter Altenberg wrote: “the coffee house is not home, but not out in the fresh air either”. In the 19th and 20th centuries the coffee house was not only a place for enjoying coffee and meeting friends – well known artists created their works of art there. Important Vienna coffee house artists were Peter Altenberg, Karl Kraus, Friedrich Torberg, Arthus Schnitzler, Thomas Bernhard and many more.
