Charming Ecosystems.

A posting from Poetry Café

Could something as mundane as glass containers fill your quiescent life with copious doses of color and charm? You are certain to dismiss it as a figment of somebody’s imagination, until you invite yourself into the invigorating and insightful interiors of artist Jose Agatep’s shop in Philadelphia. Because it is only here that sensational shapes, sizes and styles in glass blend together perfectly to celebrate artistic fervour like never before. The store, fascinatingly named The Slug and the Squirrel, is a treasure trove of repurposed bottle terrariums created with passion by Agatep that have the uncanny ability to strike up an animated conversation with onlookers in an instant.

If quirky and out-of-the-box is your cuppa tea, then Jose Agatep’s artwork serves you an entire teapot. The talented artist takes ordinary, repurposed glass containers and juxtaposes them with his love for verdant landscapes. The result is, well, extraordinary – terrariums that create a big impact with small ingredients – bright plants, mosses, soil, pebbles and wood pieces. Place them in your chaotic office or home, and watch your very own oasis of peace and tranquillity come alive.
So the next time you want something simple yet sensational to soothe those harried nerves, you know just where to rush – The Slug and the Squirrel in Philadelphia.
