Caravaggio and His Followers in Rome All Set To Take Canada By Storm. Even true-blue connoisseurs of modern art would find it hard to describe the expansive world created by the inimitable 17th century artist, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. His rich oeuvre was really a melange of bold strokes, vibrant colours and innovative techniques and made a striking departure from the trials and tribulations of his personal life. Never the one to be shackled by conventionality, he revelled in demolishing every rule in the prosaic art books. There was a certain distinctly different quality, an almost seductively intense passion about his art that managed to cut across geographical boundaries with remarkable ease. Now it is time for Canada to be completely captivated by the Caravaggisti charm.
See how Caravaggio’s work is installed at the museum
The National Gallery of Canada unveiled the much-anticipated exhibition of Caravaggio stunning works of art this June. Titled Caravaggio and His Followers in Rome, the exhibition also showcases the works of more than 30 artists, led ostensibly by the irrepressible Caravaggio. So if you are keen to see the dramatic impact of modern art in these ephemeral times, you better make it to the NGC before September 11, 2011.
