How do you have sorted your books? By author? By genre? By color? (A rainbow-shelf often makes you smile with no effort!) In “Book spine poetry” a certain “order” creates little book title poems. Nina Katchadourina, an artist who often uses the language and translation in her work, has already begun in 1993 to sort books in a way that results in a certain message. The process is always the same: pick and choose from a number of books, mostly in libraries, those that can occur together in the correct order and be read from top to bottom or left to right in a useful, funny combination. In the past 19 years Katchadourina has created over 130 often humorous, sometimes irrelevant or witty phrases.
