Naked Lunch meets Franz Kafka.

A posting from Poetry Café

The Indierocker of „Naked Lunch“ (our comment: an Austrian cult band) have for the 100 year anniversary of the Stadttheater Klagenfurt started a co-operation with Bernd Liepold-Mosser (director) to re-interpret Franz Kafka’s “Amerika”. With great success the CD with the same name was today presented in the Vienna Town Hall.

And this is the plot: The 16 year old Karl Rosmann is sent to America by his parents in order to escape the scandal of his seduction by a housemaid.

Franz Kafkas "Amerika"

His efforts to succeed in the “New World” fail again and again. Does the Nature Theatre of Oklahoma maybe help him escape?

This “play with music” (quote: Liepold-Mosser) contains scenes from the novel and nine beautiful poetic songs, which are appropriately placed between the scenes. This is certainly a long way away from the genre “musical”.

We can absolutely see everyday poetry in this play!
