Rev up your ovens, the 19th of May is World Baking Day!
It all started with a small group of baking aficionados who regularly exchanged recipes from their respective corners of the globe. World Baking Day encourages beginners and the advanced to bake something they’ve never baked before. We’ve answered this call to action, of course, and made the “3 minute brownie”.
3 Minute Brownie
Ingredients:
4 tbsp flour
4 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 egg
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp oil
Preparation (roughly 2 minutes):
In a large, microwave-safe cup or bowl, mix the flour, sugar and cocoa with a fork. Add the egg, milk and oil and blend well until you have a smooth mass. Put in the microwave and bake for 3 minutes at 1000 W. The brownie is done when it has stopped expanding and „sits back down“ inside the cup.

Burst of Color Sponge Cake

Ingredients:
For the sponge cake:
125 g margarine
150 g sugar
170 g flour
3 eggs
3 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp milk
For the colors:
600 ml whipping cream (4 x 125 ml)
5 x jelly powder (in various colors 5 x 75g)
Preparation:
1. Mix the margarine with the sugar. Add the eggs one by one. Then add the flour and the cocoa powder and gradually stir in the milk. Keep stirring until all ingredients you’ve got a smooth mass.
2. Pour sponge cake dough into a greased, round baking dish, around 21cm in diameter. Bake for 30 to 34 minutes at 170°C.
3. When done, take the sponge cake out of the oven and let it sit. When sufficiently cooled down, cut the cake in half horizontally.
4. Dissolve packs of jelly powder individually in glasses of water. Wait for an hour so the jelly has time to solidify.
5. Beat around 125ml of the whipping cream a little bit. It should not turn solid. Then mix the jelly under it. Pour this mixture on the first layer of sponge cake and put in the fridge.
Once it makes a solid impression, repeat with the next layer. Cover with another layer of sponge cake and repeat. Finish with a jelly cover and put back in the fridge.
