Art in the Office

A posting from Poetry Café

Art in the office is not only seen as “beautification” of the foyer, but sets a visual statement and should confront employees, customers and guests with something new. At least that’s the intention of Bene, an austrian producer of high class office furniture. For the fourth time Bene exhibits a contemporary artselection in their offices in the Vienna Neutorgasse. From the 3rd of May, the office will be turned into a showroom for a new selection of contemporary artworks from three chosen artists. The selection is exhibited there for half a year.

Ulrike Lienbacher
The body with an individual and socio-cultural history is the central theme of her works. They deal with the discourse on hygiene and health, to deal with dirt and cleanliness, and the sports and fitness cult. In her subtle drawings self-discipline and body worship are present and the actions of the characters act a little compulsive. Their high precision crafted works are characterized by a continuous state of fragility.

Martin Schnur
In his paintings he sets realistic representations in scenic transformations and points to the genres of film and photography. His paintings seems mysteriously through the colors and the strict, harsh shadows and dark areas. The viewer becomes a voyeur of a tense production, whose plot is only hinted at, and leave a wide margin of interpretation. The view is lost in the vastness of the landscapes but focuses immediately on an object or a close figure.

Gregor Zivic
The former painter has been working since 1997 with the medium of photography, he uses no digital editing or other material. His concern was to both classical artistic issues such as reproducibility, image of the world, and composition as well as specific photographic questions, such as the creation of virtual spaces. The arrangements for weeks staged play with the illusion, bechause the space is only backdrop and the equipment are dummys. Zivics photographs reminiscent of film, a movement, an act to stop abruptly and let solidify. You can tell stories, but leave the viewer enough space, creating worlds of dreams and memories.
