What happens when a tattoo freak meets a technological geek? Quite an obscure combination, some would say, albeit with a palpable sense of awe and wonder. But quiz French tattoo artist Karl Marc, the mind behind the world’s first animated tattoo, about his popularity sky rocketing through the stratosphere, and you are certain to find a man with an insatiable desire to be inked in animated style.
The fact that he has managed to impress even those that have barely seen the interiors of a tattoo parlour, speaks volumes of his incredible ability to make the perfect ‘impression’. But the animated chatter surrounding this event, which managed to send mouse clicks aflutter on YouTube on July 4, was really about the tattoo’s connect with modern QR codes. This means that the tattoo, if held against myriad smartphones, like the iPhone, Windows Phone or Android, will trigger a video on YouTube that bears uncanny resemblance to the tattoo in dazzling, dramatic fashion.
At the end of the four-hour long and (painful) process, sponsored by Ballentine’s scotch whiskey, viewers and tattoo aficionado’s had just one thing to say – hic, hic, hurray!
